Brief History of Lautoka School For Special Education

Lautoka School for Special Education (LSSE) was officially registered in 1970 under the name Lautoka Crippled Children’s School. The initial “two room” unit was then officially opened in 1971 through funds from protestant Members of Christ’s Church in Holland.

At the school’s “SILVER JUBILEE” the school’s name was changed to what it is called today. In 1971, while the school was still under construction, its first Head Teacher was posted to the school. The school has a hostel managed by the same managing authority. The hostel houses 9 children from as far as Tavua and Sigatoka.

The school’s program is aimed at providing each of our student’s with a comprehensive balanced program, while is suited to their learning needs and level of development. LSSE consists of students with all types of physical impairment, hearing impairment, speech impairment, intellectual impairment, special learning disability, vision impairment and emotional difficulty students. With these impairments, our teachers are engaged with quality education which is based on the fine motor skills, gross motor skills, functional skills, daily life activities, academic improvement as per need, sporting and aesthetic achievements and laying foundations of sound moral and human values.
